Pilot Program – Walk, Jog, Run

September 21 @ 8:00 am – 5:00 pm
Event Series (See All)

As many of you know, UNA’s Roar for Wellness program, led by Ms. Jackie Allen in the Department of Kinesiology, has helped establish our campus as a leader in employee wellness. At the same time, UNA has long supported the professional and personal development of our faculty and staff through educational benefits such as tuition remission.

This fall, we are bringing these two commitments together in a new pilot initiative designed to support the well-being of both mind and body. Encouraging healthy habits among our employees also supports the University’s broader efforts to manage healthcare costs and maintain sustainable employee benefits. Just as importantly, we hope this initiative will give faculty and staff another opportunity to enjoy our beautiful campus, connect with colleagues from across the University, and take advantage of the educational benefits available to them.

KIN 105: Walking/Jogging/Running

This fall, faculty and staff may enroll in KIN 105: Walking/Jogging/Running (1 credit hour).

Course Description:

Encompasses all aspects of walking, jogging, and running, from pre-stretching and warm-up routines to the activities themselves. Students may select walking, jogging, or running. The course is designed to improve cardiovascular fitness and meets two class periods per week.

KIN 105 will be offered at the following times:

Monday/Wednesday, 3:45–4:35 p.m. (CRN 18641)
Tuesday/Thursday, 3:45–4:35 p.m. (CRN 18642)

A Special Incentive for This Pilot

To make participation more accessible this semester only, employees enrolled in KIN 105 will be permitted to attend the course without reporting leave for the time spent in class.

Employees should not leave their work area before 3:30 p.m., and regular class attendance will be required. This provision applies specifically to employees who are enrolled in and attending the course. Registering for the course but leaving work without attending class would constitute an abuse of the program and may result in appropriate disciplinary action. Please speak to your supervisor before registering to ensure there is ample coverage in your respective departments.

We hope the course will help participants establish healthy habits that continue well beyond the semester. We also hope it encourages faculty and staff to explore other opportunities for learning through UNA’s tuition-remission benefit.

We would like to thank the Office of Human Resources and Ms. Jackie Allen of UNA’s Roar for Wellness program for their support.
