Scholar-Athlete Mentoring Program

The members of the Athletic Committee and the coordinators of the University of North Alabama Scholar-Athlete Mentoring Program invite you to consider becoming a mentor in this wonderful program.

The University of North Alabama Scholar-Athlete Mentoring Program is an initiative in which members of both faculty and staff from the university volunteer to serve as role models for scholar-athletes. The program encourages and assists UNA scholar-athletes to develop valuable assets they can use both at UNA and in everyday life. Through interactions with mentors during this process, mentees often strengthen their time management skills, their social interaction skills, and their organizational skills. These acquired abilities, paired with their degree, can help improve their quality of life once they graduate and depart from the University of North Alabama.

As a mentor, you have latitude in how you develop your relationship with your scholar-athlete. There is no set amount of time requested of mentors; we just ask that mentors arrange for regularly scheduled contact with their mentee. While we have tweaked the program over the years, the one constant has been that the relationships have pleasantly surprised both mentors and mentees, often becoming invaluable in assisting students to better manage the many demands on their time.

The program will host five (5) events over the course of the academic year in which we ask both the mentor and mentee to be present. These events range from our Kickoff to Bingo Night to the Elite Speakers series.
